Creating Hope with Intensives
Couples Counseling in Nashville, TN
Is traditional weekly therapy not working for you?
When you attend traditional weekly therapy sessions, it can sometimes feel like you're just getting started when the hour is already up. The momentum you gain during that time often fades, and by the time your next session arrives, it can feel like you're back at square one. You end up spending valuable time trying to reconnect with where you left off while also bringing your therapist up to speed on everything that’s happened since.

Intensive Therapy FAQ
-
An intensive therapy session is an immersive, focused experience where we dive deep into your specific issues, allowing for significant progress in a condensed time. This format allows for a more impactful, transformative experience compared to regular sessions.
-
Intensive therapy allows for deeper, more focused work in a shorter period of time. Rather than meeting weekly for shorter sessions, intensives condense the work into longer sessions (4 hours or more), which helps you get to the heart of the issues faster. This approach can save you both time and money in the long run because it speeds up the healing process, reducing the overall amount of therapy needed.
-
If you’re struggling with personal challenges such as anxiety, depression, or self-esteem, an individual intensive may be best for you.
If you’re facing relationship difficulties—like communication issues, trust, or emotional disconnection—a couples intensive will provide a focused, collaborative approach to heal and reconnect.
-
Intensive therapy is a personal investment that can pay off in big dividends. Individuals or couples ready to make fast progress on personal or relational challenges can benefit from this format. Whether you’re looking to work on yourself or your relationship, intensives can lead to lasting change, improving your well-being or relationship in a fraction of the time.
An intensive is a great fit if you’re ready for quick, focused progress on personal or relational issues and are committed to lasting change. However, it’s not suitable if you’re actively suicidal, experiencing domestic violence, or in active addiction, as these situations require a safety plan and specialized care for your safety and well-being.
-
Therapy intensives can address a wide range of individual and relationship issues. For individuals, these include trauma and PTSD, anxiety and panic disorders, depression, addiction and substance abuse, self-esteem and identity struggles, grief and loss, chronic stress and burnout, anger management, existential or spiritual crises, and phobias and fears.
For couples, intensives typically focus on relationship dynamics, such as communication issues, trust concerns, emotional disconnection, conflict resolution, and healing from past trauma within the relationship. Couples may also seek intensives to improve intimacy, rebuild emotional closeness, or navigate significant life changes together.
In both individual and couples therapy intensives, the goal is to provide a concentrated, in-depth approach that helps clients address their challenges effectively, build new skills, and gain insights in a focused, short-term setting.
-
Absolutely! I can even coordinate with your current therapist, with your signed release of information (ROI), to help support your continued care. Additionally, I can provide a treatment summary and a plan from the intensive to share with your therapist to ensure you continue on the path to success.

30 minutes processing
15 minutes closing
One month of weekly 60-minute in-person sessions: $1,100
Total time processing: 2 hours (120 minutes)
Intensive therapy:

3.5 hours processing
15 mins closing

Couples Intensives assist couples in experiencing a longer amount of time to discuss a vital problem area without having to be interrupted because the time is up. Along with the therapist, they get to sort out their issue by talking about it, asking questions, allowing for the therapist’s input, and the therapist sharing helpful strategies to work through tough issues.

Couples therapy intensives can address a variety of issues like communication problems, trust issues, emotional disconnection, infidelity, intimacy concerns, conflict resolution, and rebuilding connection. These sessions allow for a deep dive into the root causes of your challenges, helping you rebuild and strengthen your relationship, often leading to quicker and more impactful results than traditional sessions.
-
Yes! During a one or two-day, 8-hour couples intensive, each partner will have one individual session each, along with a joint session as a couple. This ensures both personal and relational issues are fully addressed. Additionally, if you are scheduling an individual intensive, you will receive a 2-hour session before the intensive itself. This approach ensures a well-rounded, holistic healing experience, leading to quicker progress and more energy at the end of your session.
-
Before the intensive, think about one or two specific issues that you would like to focus on. This clarity will help guide our time together and ensure we make the most progress. Be open, honest, and ready to engage deeply in the work ahead. The more specific you can be about what you want to work on, the more traction we will gain during the session.
-
Your safety and well-being are my priority. If you do not feel safe being in the same room, we can structure the intensive differently to ensure a secure environment for both of you. We will work together to address these concerns in a respectful, productive manner, ensuring that you both feel heard and safe during the session.
With that said, I do not work with cases involving domestic violence. These situations require a specialist with deep training in that area. When there is a power imbalance or safety concern, therapy—especially intensives—can unintentionally escalate emotional distress or risk. My focus is on emotional healing, connection, and development, and I believe those in DV situations are best served by clinicians trained specifically in trauma-informed and safety-focused interventions.
-
After the intensive, I offer a follow-up session either two weeks or one month later to help ensure that the progress made is sustained. If you feel you need additional sessions, we can continue working together. Just let me know, and we can schedule ongoing sessions as needed. Many clients find that the intense focus during the intensive allows for a more substantial long-term shift, and a follow-up keeps that momentum going.
