Mini-Intensives
Couples that seek out couples therapy attending sessions for 50 minutes or one hour have said that they have had the experience of not having enough time to get to the heart of their issue(s). The session is often too short, and once the problem is explained to the therapist, then an attempt at a discussion, there is not the fulfillment of a goal being met due to time running out. Often, a couple can leave a therapy session feeling frustrated, annoyed and a little hopeless because they felt like “a wound was reopened and left exposed or what was felt like a scab being ripped off their heart.” Couples end the session feeling like they were just getting started and then go back to trying to soothe or relieve themselves of the additional hurt they may be experiencing until they return to the next session.
A shorter version of a one- or two-day intensive is offered in one four-hour block of time. In that time, a couple meets with me for a longer block of time with the likelihood of achieving success.
The reason?
Not only does the mini-intensive allow for a longer session and with the compelling chance of improving the relationship, but it helps provide the couple with a much clearer direction and a stronger start to begin to continue the work on their relationship. Many weeks of the traditional 50 minute to one hour therapy sessions is covered in this four-hour timeframe so that couples can gain more steadiness as they continue to work toward growing in their relationship. Whether continuing working on the relationship with the skills taught by me, or to continue with a traditional therapy session or another method of an intensive, couples can experience meeting goals to an improved relationship quickly.
As with the one day and two-day intensives, couples can attend a mini-intensive either in person or by zoom (zoom is only for Tennessee residents). Couples are also provided with materials to take with them to refer to once they leave.
